For the most adventurous and experienced hikers, the Tatras offer the opportunity to climb iconic peaks. However, do not forget that such hikes are demanding and require good fitness and experience. All ascents to exposed peaks off marked hiking trails can only be done accompanied by a certified mountain guide.
Gerlachov Peak (Gerlachovský štít)
Gerlachovský štít is the highest peak in Slovakia (2 655 m above sea level) and is symbolised by its massive rock walls. It is the dream of many hikers to climb it, but it is only accessible with a mountain guide. The path leads through exposed terrain and requires special equipment and experience.
Starting point: Poprad lake or Silesian House
Ascent time: approx. 8 - 10 hours (whole route)
Difficulty: extremely difficult, only with a mountain guide
Lomnica Peak (Lomnický štít)
Lomnicky štít (2,634 m above sea level) is one of the most visited peaks, especially thanks to the cable car that takes you comfortably to the very top. For hikers looking for a real challenge, it is possible to climb the peak with a mountain guide.
Starting point: Tatranská Lomnica (cable car) or Skalnaté Pleso (cable car and guided ascent)
Ascent time: 1 hour (cable car), approx. 4 - 6 hours (with guide)
Difficulty: easy (cable car), extremely difficult (with guide)
Slavkov Peak (Slavkovský štít)
Slavkovský štít (2 452 m above sea level) is a distinctive and easily recognizable peak that rises above Starý Smokovec. Although the climb is difficult, it is along a marked hiking trail. It is known for its long and continuous climb up a steep slope, but the reward is spectacular views of the wide surroundings.

Kriváň
Kriváň (2 494 m above sea level) is one of the most iconic Slovak peaks and a national symbol. It is one of the most popular climbs, but at the same time it is quite challenging. In the final part it leads through steep and rocky terrain, where you have to help yourself with your hands. The reward is a sense of awe and breathtaking views.

Rysy
Rysy (2,503 m above sea level) is the highest peak in the Tatra Mountains, with a marked trail leading to it. It is one of the most popular hikes and is famous for its ladder section. They are also the highest mountain in Poland. During the ascent you will pass the Hut under Rysy, where you can rest and refresh yourself before the final climb.

Ascent time: approximately 4-5 hours from Popradské Pleso
Difficulty: difficult
Východná Vysoká
Východná Vysoká (2 429 m above sea level) is a peak with one of the most beautiful circular views in the High Tatras. Thanks to its location at the end of a long ridge, it offers unique panoramas of the Little Cold Valley, the Great Cold Valley and other peaks. Although the climb is difficult, it is safe and suitable for hikers who are looking for a challenge but are not skilled climbers.
