Hut under Rysy, located at an altitude of 2,250 meters, is the highest-situated chalet in the Tatra Mountains. Nestled at the head of the Mengusovska Valley, it serves as an important landmark and rest stop on the route to the popular Tatra peak, Rysy. The chalet is famous not only for its location but also for its unforgettable views of the surrounding peaks and the Mengusovské Tarns.
The journey to the chalet is challenging but all the more rewarding. The starting point is Popradské pleso (accessible from Štrbské Pleso), from where the red-marked trail leads. During the ascent, you will pass through exposed terrain, which is secured with chains in some sections, and overcome steep climbs. The chalet is also well-known thanks to the Tatra sherpas (porters) who carry supplies up on their backs, keeping this traditional craft alive.
After a demanding climb, the chalet is the perfect place for a well-deserved rest. From its terrace, you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and recharge your energy before continuing your journey. The chalet provides basic refreshments, making it a popular stop before heading up to Rysy or as the final destination of the hike itself.
An interesting highlight is its iconic toilet, which, thanks to its position over a steep slope, is considered one of the most curious and sought-after spots in the entire Tatras.
