The Tatra electric railways, nicknamed "električky", have been an integral part of the High Tatras since 1908. This iconic transport network connects the main settlements and tourist centres, offering not only a practical but also an ecological alternative to car transport. Thanks to narrow tracks and electric propulsion, the trams move smoothly through the landscape and provide unique panoramic views of the majestic Tatra peaks.
The TEŽ network consists of two main lines:
Poprad-Tatry - Starý Smokovec - Štrbské Pleso: This main line connects the transport hub in Poprad with the centres of the Tatra Mountains and continues to the popular Štrbské Pleso. It is the ideal way to reach most of the hiking trails and attractions.
Starý Smokovec - Tatranská Lomnica: The second, shorter track, leads from Starý Smokovec to the famous resort of Tatranská Lomnica, which is the gateway to the cable cars to Lomnický štít and Skalnaté pleso.
Travelling by tram is comfortable, fast and reliable. They run at regular intervals throughout the year , making them the ideal means of discovering the beauty of the Tatras without the hassle of parking.
